Garbage to Energy Technologies

Wastes can also be used to generate clean energy, according to many experts. One method involves burning methane produced by landfills as a fuel source. The EPA reports that about four hundred landfills in the United States have methane power plants that can capture the methane produced by the landfill and turn it into electricity. In addition, garbage itself can create energy when it is burned. So-called waste-to-energy (WTE) plants incinerate municipal wastes to produce two important benefits— reducing the mass and weight of garbage by turning it into ash, and creating renewable electricity.
