Dr Derocher is Professor of biological sciences at the University of Alberta. His research group focuses on the ecology, conservation and management of large carnivores with the aim to improve our understanding of how they are affected by human activities. Over the past 25 years, his primary research has focused on polar bears in both the North American and European Arctic. His research group works closely with territorial and federal government agencies. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta and is currently the Chair of the IUCN/SSC Polar Bear Specialist Group.
