Therefore, historically, the Mexican power sector has been dominated by oil - in contrast to coal playing a similar role in China and India. As a result of the reform process that began in 1990s, the Mexican power sector has undergone significant structural changes in terms of its ownership, fuel-share, and generation technology. The changes in Mexico's generation portfolio have had significant impacts on its emissions trajectory from power sector.
