Cement Demand Centers

Because of the relatively high transportation costs involved in delivering cement, the U.S. cement industry is structured around state-specific cement demand centers. PCA reports that the vast majority of cement produced in the U.S. is being transported less than 300 miles by truck due to cement's low value by weight and high cost of transport [17]. However, cement may be transported over longer distances, especially when the less expensive rail and water transportation modes are available [18].
