Subsequently, we used a reduced model: N2O-N = EF-N + e, in which the background emission (B) was omitted (model F-D-F-2, Table 9.4). The reduced model F-D-F-2 suggested that N2O emission factor averaged 0.42%, with a stand error of 0.06% (Table 9.5). Compared with the model F-D-F-1, the model F-D-F-2 minimized substantially the uncertainty in estimates of direct N2O emission.

Similarly, direct N2O emissions depended greatly on nitrogen inputs in rice paddies under the water regime of F-D-F-M (model F-D-F-M, Table 9.4; Fig. 9.3c).
