Installation Water Depth

The CETO units are designed to operate in shallow waters of between 20 and 50 m depth. At these depths there is significant energy loss as deep-water swell waves propagate shoreward and lose energy due to friction with the seabed. Nevertheless there is still an appreciable wave resource available on the southern Australian coastline even after these losses are taken into consideration. The advantage of operating in relatively shallow waters is that sites are typically no more than two kilometres from shore and often significantly closer than that, helping to keep costs of piping fluid to shore within acceptable limits.
