Strains of Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (PA15 ATCC 49037, 4-02 and 1-05), Enterobacter agglomerans and Bacillus licheniformis isolated from sugarcane in Cuba were studied in their capacity of growth and N2 fixation in eight carbon sources. Cells were grown at 30°C and 150 rpm in LGI-P medium (Reis et al. 1994) with 1% of C sources. The effect of six nitrogen sources (5mM) on the growth was also proved. Concentrations of 0.025, 0.25 and 2.5 of indole 3acetic acid (AIA) and giberellic acid (GA) were used to determine the growth and nitrogen fixation capacity of the strains. Interactions among nine selected isolates from the endophytic community were determined by the Bauer and Kirby method.
