a wire mesh or coarse fabric to provide a lesser degree of removal efficiency. Strainers provide a removal efficiency ranging from 10 to 55% for suspended solids and 60 to 95% for settleable solids depending on screen sizing. Filtration equipment including microstrainers (depicted in Fig. 12) [42] can provide 50-95% suspended solids removal. Surface loading rates for filtration and fine media microstrainer units range from 2 to 10 gal/min/ft2. Rotary drum strainers and high-rate coarse screen microstrainers have surface loading rates ranging from 20 to 100 gal/ min/ft2.
