Sea Level Rise

Given that 10 percent of the world's population currently lives in low-lying coastal zones and that this proportion is growing, sea level rise is an important aspect of future climate change impacts.15 Unfortunately, current methods of projecting sea level are insufficient to provide either a best estimate or an upper limit for sea level rise over the current century.16 This section describes how plausible values for average global sea level rise were derived for the three climate change scenarios (see table 3-1).
