Fjords have unique and some of the most dynamic landsystems. There is a large contrast among climatic settings and glacial regime and, to a degree, there still remains some lack of resolution among regimes. Temperate and sub-polar systems have similarities, but more data on the types of grounding-line systems, sediment accumulation rates, distribution and proportions of bergstone diamicton and bergstone mud, proportions of biogenic and organic carbon material and assemblages, and sequence architecture should pave the way to clarifying distinctions. These fjord landsystems are valuable repositories of scientific information for the earth sciences. We need to increase our efforts in understanding the processes in fjords that go to make the landsystems, as well as recover longer records of sediment within the landsystems for global change studies.
