In Ghana, it regenerates mainly in gaps, and on the forest floor after ground fire (Hall & Swaine 1981). It tends to form clumps in the forest (herbarium).

In Ghana, it is only found in semi-deciduous forests (Hall & Swaine 1981), especially in burnt or otherwise disturbed dry forests (Hawthorne 1995a).
