Continent: Senegal to the Democratic Republic of Congo (De Koning 1983), but according to Hall & Swaine (1981) it is found from Sierra Leone to Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The species is also reported from Congo (Brazzaville), but this determination is uncertain. Upper Guinea: Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d'lvoire, Ghana (herbarium)

It is often found near rivers.
