Dynamic equations have been estimated for the demand for energy, defined as total heat supplied,2 in ten sectors of the economy (i.e. for all the fuel users listed above except for power conversion and the energy industries' own use of energy). Demand is related to economic activity, relative prices and deviations from mean for air temperature; a dummy variable to represent the effects of the miners' strike in 1984 was included but turned out to be insignificant in these equations.
