A simple model of the plant profile of the UK electricity supply industry has been constructed to provide a framework in which to make informed judgements about future fuel inputs to the electricity industry. The main inputs from the rest of MDM to the electricity supply industry (ESI) submodel are the projected growth in electricity output and the relative fuel prices given the assumed level of the carbon/energy tax. The ESI model then produces fuel input requirements for the electricity industry, i.e. the amount of each type of fuel used in million therms which is entered in the fuel use table. This treatment allows fuel use in the ESI to be determined by the existing and expected characteristics of the generating stations, including their expected life-time, their efficiency and the type of fuel they burn.
