• The porosity of the vegetation and accumulated litter must be known. The assumed design values are based on a limited database, and the value is likely to change over the long term.
• The removal of BOD is assumed to be temperature dependent based on experience with other wastewater treatment processes; however, data from many operating wetland systems do not demonstrate temperature dependence.
