Ingolfur Arnasson was born c.850 at Fjalir in Norway. According to the earliest known tradition, his family came from Hjor5aland. His father was either named Orn or more probably Bjornulfr. Arnasson traveled to
Iceland c. 870, where he founded a settlement. He subsequently lived at a farm in Reykjavik, Iceland. He married Hallveig Frööadöttir; they had a son, Forsteinn. The date of Arnasson's death is unknown.
