The Arctic Council is a high-level intergovernmental forum that addresses common concerns and challenges faced by the Arctic governments and the people of the Arctic. The main activities of the Council focus on the protection of the Arctic environment and sustainable development as a means of improving the economic, social, and cultural well-being of the north (see Arctic Council). Programs of the Arctic Council relating to climate include the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP, see below); Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF), which will assess the impacts of climate change on Arctic ecosystems in collaboration with AMAP; and the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA, see below), set up in association with the International Arctic Science Committee.
