This chapter describes sediment types, distribution patterns, and processes which regulate sedimentation on the seafloor of the Antarctic Sector of the Pacific Ocean. It is based largely on sediment cores and samples, bottom photographs, and nephelometer profiles acquired during previous cruises of the United States vessels U.S.N.S. Eltanin, R.V. Conrad and U.S.C.G.C. Glacier (Deep Freeze Expeditions) and, to a lesser extent, on published sediment descriptions and maps of Russian (Lisitzin, 1962,1970) and French (Dangeard et al., 1977) scientists.
