Materials And Methods

The northern region of Brazil, largely comprised of the Amazon forest and deforested areas managed as cattle pasturage, has an important role in the global climate change issue. Small changes in temperature and precipitation can markedly influence soil organic carbon dynamics that will contribute to global climate change responses.

In order to illustrate this scenario, we applied the Century ecosystem model (Century 4.0) using Tyndall Center climatic predictions to simulate soil carbon stocks and fluxes in a chrono-sequence of forest to pasture located within the Nova Vida Ranch, located in Rondonia State, in the western part of the Brazilian Amazon.
