Dissolved Oxygen

Dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration is an important parameter in the operation of aerobic wastewater treatment systems. Aerobic granules can form at a DO concentration as low as 0.7-1.0 mg l-1 in an SBR (Peng et al., 1999), while studies show they can also successfully develop at DO concentrations of 2-6 mg l-1 (Yang et al., 2003; Tsuneda et al., 2004; Qin et al., 2004a). It appears that if aerobic condition is maintained by sufficient aeration, the DO concentration is not a decisive parameter in aerobic granulation.
